Much like the last 50 years, I don't know what happened last week! I'm behind on everything. Part of my problem was weather. We've had about 12 inches of snow, ice and today is very cold. Brrcheevies. No sunshine. I'm in a blue mood and feeling old. What can I do to motivate myself and cheer myself up? Don't know yet.
I live in the middle of nowhere and we have a satellite dish for our internet. It was moving slower than Christmas this past week! So, to get back on track, I have to announce winners of the books and coffee on When I Was Just a Kid, but I took a test about what color I should paint my room. Not that I'm going to paint my room, but it was mainly to see what I am like and what I like. I have to say, this is one of my favorite colors. And not only that, this is exactly what I need for the new year(what the color inspires.) Maybe I need to really paint my office yellow! I would like that a lot. Maybe if I just put up a lot of sunflowers and daisies and yellow accents? It's a thought.
What do you need to happen for your new year? What are your goals and dreams? I am thinking about this now.
You Should Paint Your Room Yellow |
Bright and bold, yellow is truly the color of inspiration. Your yellow room will drive you to think clearly, develop new ideas, and be organized. Yellow is also energizing and very powerful. So don't expect to rest in there! |

I have a different experience with yellow.
Yellow is about the worst color you can paint a room. It's hard on the eyes and can cause disturbing thoughts.
We painted our daughter's room yellow and white before she was born. When we learned how harsh yellow could be on the human brain, we changed it to a medium purple and white. The difference was amazing! I could feel the peace as soon as I entered the newly painted room.
My daughter is autistic and we saw a difference in her immediately when we changed the color.
I'd think real hard before I'd paint a room yellow again. If I were to do it, I'd go with a pale yellow and lots of bright accents.
I agree, Pam, that you would not paint your daughter's room yellow. After years of studying the colors and how they affect both people in rooms, and people wearing certain colors, that would also be my conclusion for you.
A recent study shows that the color pink has a calming effect on those in jail. More and more jails are being painted pink! And it definitely works.
I do not need calm in my office. I need inspiration, light, and a place to create and come up with new ideas. Part of my environment is outside(big window.) In Indiana we have gray-white skies--a lot! When my room was painted a light blue, I was depressed! I felt lethargic and uninitiated and cold. I painted my office a chocolate brown (setter brown) and I feel cozy and happy most of the time, but I need some punch. But I won't be painting it yellow--just have some yellow accents.
And this was a test that probably can be taken with a grain of salt--but was pretty right on in that I need to be driven to reorganize and develop new ideas!
I've written papers and articles on color--anecdotal information about a person's experience with color is always interesting to me.
Thanks!
When we bought out house in 1985, it was yellow. I mean the whole house was yellow. Outside and inside, all the walls and ceilings, doors, even inside every closet - yellow. And it wasn't a soft, butter yellow, either. It was ugly, and I hated it. But I lived with it for maybe five years. i'd finally had enough - took two weeks of my vacation time, and painted the whole inside an off-white, something called Swiss Cottage. Then we had the outside painted white, with gray trim. Much better!
But now I'm ready for a change. I'm tired of the all white interior. Typical, huh?
So, my new year's project is to paint one wall in each room with a bold contrasting color. My bedroom wall will be an ocean blue - called Bayside. It's pretty much a teal. My living room will be a burgundy - haven't chosen the paint yet. My kitchen wall will be a red and white lattice pattern. And my office, I'm thinking of a cranberry or raspberry color, maybe even paper another wall with large cabbage roses! Haven't decided on the two bathrooms and extra bedroom.
So, just like my tastes in almost everything else, my house will be an eclectic mix of "bold" and off-white. "grin"
Hope you have Merry and Blessed Christmas!
